The Lust List

I'm one of those people who has never wanted to be like everyone else and I would hunt items that no one else had and then be put off by realising everyone else has the same things as me. This lust list is full of items that are just that little bit different.

This gold edge bracelet contains rose petals that have been preserved and captured. Once on you wrist it will look like your wrist is circled by floating petals.

Kei jewellery's crystal quartz arrowhead necklace is just one of the many boho necklaces by Kai jewellery that can be layered up to create unique combinations. I love the unusual chains that make these necklaces something extra.
This wooden animal box by Karl Zahn and Areawear is fun and doubles up as a fun figurine. This one is the Rhino but they also do walrus's, whales, a bear and a llama.

Artwork is always something that is very personal and what one person likes another will hate. I am drawn to maps, typography, botanical images and fashion plates. I found these clocks made from vintage books at the juju shop in the Corn Exchange in Leeds. At only £22 they are an affordable piece of quirky art.

Looking for a unique present for someone check out Not Another Bill who send a surprise gift through the post from £21 for a one off, £60 for three months, £110 for 6 months and £210 for 12 months. Each month they collaborate with a designer or brand to bring you something truly special. They are currently running a parcel game which you can still sign up to via their website.

Mrs Miller's lunch challenge

I have a confession, whilst I love cooking lunch often leaves me stumped. Whilst in Nottingham I confessed to my friend the regularity with which I buy my lunch as she challenged me to spend a week making a home made lunch.  In the hope of inspiring you here are the meals I made and where you can find the recipes.

Day 1
Homemade lemonade, sweetcorn, broad bean and spring onion fritters (made using the recipe for sweetcorn and broad bean fritters from Honestly Healthy) with sweet tomatoe tabbouleh (Honestly Healthy).

Day 2
Grilled aubergine salad (using Hugh Fernley Whittingstall's recipe for ), revitalised thins and cherries.

Day 3
Vegetable and Edam cheese omelette (I used asparagus, peas, spinach, tomato, red onion and left over grilled aubergine from the previous day) olives with cherries.

Day 4
Asian dressed rice, chickpea, pea and cashew salad with cherries. For the Thai dressing I used mirim, rice vinegar, red chili oil, lemon, spring onions and lemongrass.

Day 5
Failure day. I ended up going to boots and spending my boots points.

The Lust List

This weekend I am off to Henley with some friends and I thought I would list 5 of my picks for the perfect picnic with friends.

When my brother Al got married my brother Chris was stumped for a wedding present so he ask his friend who had recently got married what his favourite wedding present was and he said a picnic basket. Silver Editions Sussex Picnic Basket for 2 or 4 has a handle to assist with carrying it and comes with ceramic plates, glasses, flatware, napkins, a corkscrew, salt and pepper shakers and cooler.

Next you need something to sit upon something and I whilst I will be sat upon a selection of cheep throws I have picked up from market stalls I would far rather recline upon the Newbury Picnic Blanket with its oil skin reverse.

No adult picnic is complete without champagne. Laurent Perrier Rose Champagne Cuvée Brut NV is the perfect girlie picnic drink to celebrate getting together.

To juxtapose the champagne glut back some refreshing Lorina traditional pink lemonade.

Delicatessen food is made for picnics and many do their own picnic hampers. My Grandfather lives in Aldburgh and when he visits my parents he often brings treats from Lawson's and if he knows that I will be around he goes to request the odd vegetarian treat. It has now got to the point whereby when he asks for something veggie they automatically say "no mushrooms" due to my adversion. So if you are ever in Aldburgh my suggestion is that you check out their picnic hampers.
Ps if you are renting a cottage in Aldeburgh during the summer check out Lawson's service whereby the deliver your holiday essentials to your door.

A little bit of Nottingham

This Friday I headed to Nottingham to catch up with my oldest friend. I am told that we have known each other since we were two but in reality I cannot remember a time when we didn't know one another.

We started the weekend with prosecco and sushi. Unfortunately the cork decided that having joked that it was difficult to remove that it was not going without a fight.

Finally there was success.

On Saturday we hit the shops before heading to Delilah's for lunch. Imagine the perfect deli mixed with an old bank building, and chic eatery. It was heavenly. We had pink lemonade and the sweet chili houlummi salad.

After mooching in the garden we headed to Tilt. My friend has been telling me about Tilt ever since I introduced her to the flower decorated cocktails in the Mavern.

She returned the favour by taking me to one of her favourite haunts and their version of  a pornstar martini. The clientele is eclectic and we rubbed shoulders with mix of girlie groups, friends meeting for a quite drink, middle age couples and a hen do. I can honestly say I fell in love with the pornstar martini.

We then went to Aurora which has very reasonably priced menu where you either order two courses for £16.95 or three for £19.95. The menu changes every two months And there are daily specials.

Unfortunately I consumed my food too quickly to take photos but I had the Asparagus with Chilli Mayonnaise, Pink Grapefruit and Crostini as a starter followed by the Aubergine, Courgette & Red Onion ‘Pastie’ Olive & Tomato Sauce. My friend meanwhile when for the scallops and steak which had a £2 supplement each.
